America is great because…

June 18th, 2009

There are more than 300 million indescribable reasons why America is the greatest nation on earth…but our greatness comes from some place deeper.  Our greatness rests on the truth that America is a slow moving giant.  We don’t (as a nation) react too quickly to anything, but when aggravated…well to use Admiral Yamamoto’s words:

“I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

This LINK to a letter, sent to Glenn Beck by a woman from Arizona, sums up my believes.  Her wrap up is as follows:

“Democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian. Understand this. We don’t care. Political parties are meaningless to us. Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution and that is all that matters to us now.”

While America likes to party, scuffling bullies have bumped the record player and dancing couples have taken noticed.  Our political leaders are now infringing on our fun by writing checks against an over drawn account and telling the “Rich” they owe it to America to foot the bill.

Patriotism, President Obama, is not defined by paying taxes, but rather standing up for America ideals.

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness INCLUDES the right to profit from our hard work.  Taking funds from one group of American’s to fund the social experiments for another is wrong.  But I need to not you Mr. President for it is America whom you’ve awaken.  The “Tea Baggers” as you portrayed us in April are merely the minutemen standing to confront the initial assault.

Soon all our Political leaders will be facing an overwhelming force and one by one the politically savvy will attempt to change sides and try to hold claim to being the champion for America.  The true champion is Joe and Jane American because they carry the most powerful weapon on the planet–a united voice for freedom!

Beginners Guide to Twitter created by Ed Bejarana for Small Business People

June 5th, 2009

start-your-accountTwitter can be an excellent web traffic tool to help you improve your:

  1. Customer Conversion Optimization
  2. Number of Inbound Links
  3. Search Engine Optimization

The first step is to visit Twitter.com and click on “Get Started – Join”

join-the-conversationEnter your real name (unless anonymity is required). We feel personal branding has a huge internet marketing benefit.

Create a Twitter User Account

Enter your eMail address. We suggest you create a special eMail account for Twitter messages so you can isolate the increased eMail traffic.

Complete the rest of the form and click “Create My Account”.

invite-friendsYour first option will be to invite your friends to follow you on Twitter. We suggest you skip this step.

start-followingThe next option is to following some people. We suggest you skip this step too. We will use The Twitter Yellow Pages to follow a select group of people based on the industry they self-identify with.

This is a good time to mention the goal for your Twitter account. Build more web traffic AND more links on Google. While you could use Twitter as a communication tool, we feel the time commitment for this strategy out weights the ROI.

twitter-profileOnce your account is created, the first step is to update your profile. This is the information screen people see when they visit your Twitter account. It includes your account name, real name, web address, location, and 160 character description.

Your profile description will be the content evaluated for most Twitter searches. While your tweets are also index by the search engines, your profile is an important information section for starting to identify you with your business industry.

The picture tab is where you upload your avatar. We suggest you use a photo of yourself. A head shot helps build a personal connection with people.

The Design tab is where you can manage your Twitter background. You can use one of the default patterns or create your own picture. We suggest you create a pic that measure 1400 pixels by 1200 pixels so that you background completly fills most all computer monitors.

The two most important Twitter tasks is managing your following/followers and broadcasting messages.

Twitter does not like SPAM anymore than you. To try and control SPAMMERS, Twitter puts limits on the number of people you can follow.

The main idea behind building a large following is first following people who in-turn follow you back. Over time you will find in your “Followers” screen that people are following you and you are not yet following them in return. You can tell that you are NOT following a follower because the option to follow is shown under the Twitter account name. See image below. To follow the person back, click on follow.

follower-management

The question of limiting who you follow to protect your reputation is a personal decision you will need to make. While we suggest you follow anyone who follows you, your personal or business needs may dictate otherwise. As you will alter see, Twitter is a numbers game and your account will receive preferential treatment as your follower count increases.

Since you will, more often than not, first follow someone, you will need to (eventually) unfollow those who don’t follow you in return.

Why? Because Twitter limits the number of people you can follow until you have enough followers. For example, you can not follow more than 2,000 people until at least 2,000 people follow you back. After 2,000 followers, you are only allow to follow a few hundred people more than are following you. The message is your will need to spend time daily managing your followings.

following-management

When you click on the following tab, you will see the people you are following. To make room for more people to follow, you need to unfollow those who don’t follow you back. How often you do this clean-up is up to you, but we reccomend you do this task daily. If you have the ability to “Direct message” a follwoer, then that follower has opted to follow you back.

Does President Obama have his own “Iran Hostage” Event?

April 12th, 2009

Is the worlds most powerful navy really being held at bay by four pirates in a row boat?  Can our sharp shooters really not take out four gunmen who don’t have cover?  Or is there more to this story that we don’t yet know?

Captain Phillips was amazinly brave to put himself in harms way to spare his crew.  Are we, as a nation, letting this brave man down with our inaction?

Ofcourse not, the administration is “watching the situation closly”, said Robert Gibbs, Whitehouse Press Secretary.  FBI hostage negotiators have been dispatched to the scene to engage in negotiations.

Have we reached the point where we can start counting the days like we did with the Iran Hostage crisis?  On November 4, 1979 our newly elected President encouraged the release of hostages after 444 days of captivity.  Was it the fear of additional talk or the likelihood of military action that moved the stalemate?  More importantly, is the threat of more talks going to help Captian Phillips?

Please Mr. President, send a message to these pirates that America will not tollerate this behavior.  Sometimes the bullet speaks louder than a voice.

Bring home Captian Richard Phillips.

Let Not This North Korean Character Push Us Around…

April 5th, 2009

Does anyone else feel like this is a cartoon and Elmer Fund is drawing a line in the sand and Bugs Bunny keeps crossing it?  “Provocative [...] serious consequences.” said Secretary Clinton.

Today North Korea launched it’s missile and put a satellite in to orbit.  This means they can now hit anywhere on the planet and what is the “serious consequences“?  A special meeting of the security council has been scheduled for later today.

OK, so meetings are her preference…What are her intentions?  Apparently she is going to deliver a message that normalized relations is now going to be very hard to achieve.  Is anyone still concerns that President Bush completed work on the missile defense program?  At least now we have the chance to knock one of these things out of the sky.

I have no doubt Mrs Clinton feels she is doing the best for our nation.  I applaud her effort, but how far is she willing to go: how many lines is she willing to draw in the sand?  Will they act before or after the next attack on American soil?

Why didn’t we shoot this missile out of the sky?  Over international waters we have the authority.  The Satellite is more than likely flying over our country, why not take out the satellite?  She said serious consequence.  Would the demonstration of our abilities be a good deterrent?

God save America and all of the Free World!  Please.

Ed

Has Current American Politics Become a Magic Show?

April 2nd, 2009

magic3Anyone who has seen a talented magician knows the trick is happening in the other hand.  Are we losing interest because we are TOO focused on the Misdirection?

I feel like we are all watching prestidigitation by master magicians.  While trillions of paper bills are being printed (without backing) our leaders have us focused on stories like AIG and the protests at the G20.  Sure it is important to keep abreast of world and domestic events, but where is the reports of the devaluation of the dollar?

Conservative talk shows, of course, which congress wants to control via the “Fairness Doctrine“.  If congress is able to re-implement the “equal time” rule, will the magic trick staging finally be complete?

Conservative talk radio beats out liberal talk radio in almost every demographic across America.  Conservative news beats liberal news.  Why?

In mediums that live or die by advertising dollars, why do so many Americans flock to conservative discussion?  Oops, that is the slight-of-hand that I am talking about…the right question is why would congress want to legislate what American’s watch or listen to?

I think it is because without the conservative voice being so predominate in the market place the magic trick becomes easier.  The difference is between staged magic and close-up magic.  When we go to Vegas and see the big magic productions, we know it isn’t real, when we are up close to the magician we are amazed by the skill.

If congress takes away our ability to get up close to those making the political magic, then we might become oblivious to the production behind the scenes.  Maybe that is the goal?

They want the guns and news like this is their ammunition

March 24th, 2009

You know it will happen.  Sure, right now the anti-gun crowd are fairly quiet, but it is only a matter of time before we hear, “we have to get the guns out of the hands of criminals.”

In case you are not aware of what I am writing about, a criminal on parole was pulled over for a traffic infraction.  The criminal caught the police off guard and killed both officers.  Fleeing from the scene, police are let to an apartment, a shootout ensues and two more police officers are killed in the line of duty.  A fifth officer was wounded but is expected to recover.

Harry Harris, with the MercuryNews.com, wrote a good article about the Okaland Police Shooting.  He wrote, “…Mixon stepped out and began shooting with an semi-automatic handgun, hitting Dunakin and Hege…”

While Mr Harris did not write words that were overtly anti-gun, he did use language that implys the type of gun made matters worse.  What exactly is the different between a “semi-automatic handgun” and a “handgun”?

In an ABC report, Amy Hollyfield reported “[the salient]…used a handgun to shoot the motorcyle cops who pulled him over and an assault rifle at the apartment.”  Again, not overtly anti-gun, but “assault rifle” starts to introduce emotion in the reporting.

At some point in the not so distant future, someone will suggest outlawing semi-automatic handguns AND assault rifles is in the public’s best interest.  The suggestion will be that outlawing these guns would keep them off the streets.  The problem with such an argument is the criminal in question was already breaking the law by possessing guns.  He was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon.  What makes any sane person think a criminal will stop breaking the law by passing another law?

Disarming law abiding Americans only serve to embolden criminals to further impose their lawlessness on society.  The anti-gun groups are switching tactics and are now going after the ammunition.  The site slogan states, “Saving lives one bullet at a time”

Stay tuned, you can almost hear the anti-gun chant starting.
